Synergistic Software, Inc. was a small developer formed in the early 1980s. It was known mostly for simulation games and RPGs. Sierra acquired Synergistic Software in 1996 and integrated into the company as a wholly owned subsidiary. While owned by Sierra it mostly notably developed the titles Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance in 1996, and Diablo:Hellfire in 1997, and also developed Sierra's Frontpage Sports Football series from 1996 to 1999; It was folded into the then newly created "Sierra Frontpage Sports" business unit in 1998 but still existed as a company. However, it was shut down in February 1999 during the events of Black Monday. The Synergistic Software name later resurfaced as a small independant company now named "Northwest Synergistic Software."
